Internship

Closing date: 10.12.2023

1646 is an art space for contemporary art in the centre of The Hague with a strong international and experimental program.

For nineteen years, 1646 has supported the production of new work by emerging and established artists. The core of our activities is to offer a broader insight into artistic practice. This results in a consistent programming of solo exhibitions and the completion of a series of peripheral activities that give the public a deeper insight into the creative process and the influences behind the work, which include lectures, residencies, performances and international projects.

Internship at 1646

Working with the 1646 team is fun and diverse, because of the different activities of the organisation. You encounter artists and the extensive international network of 1646. When doing an internship, you will work with us on the organisation of exhibitions and events. The position is very flexible, and you will be able to experience and be part of the organisation in various areas. Depending on our programme, we can match your profile to specific projects when we are discussing the internship.

Your profile is suitable for this position if you are an enthusiastic and flexible team player, who can also work independently. Someone who can take responsibility and think along with us. In addition, good communication skills and familiarity with or at least exceptional interest in international contemporary art are important. Due to the international profile of our organization and team, being able to speak and write well in English is an advantage.

Our team works from Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 6 pm and during events in the evenings or the weekend. Working hours for interns will be determined individually with each applicant, but must entail a minimum of 3 days a week. 1646 is committed to making your internship a fun and valuable learning experience, adding to your personal development. Together we will look for a fitting program consisting of production, communication, and/or administrative tasks. Throughout the internship you will receive a monthly general costs compensation.

It is now possible to apply for the following internship periods: from January 8 to June 30, 2024 or from March 4 to August 2, 2024.
