:
Surprised and humbled when we unexpectedly won the Piket Art Prizes Jury prize 2022! On Monday, October 10th, 1646 received the prize, coming in the form of a beautiful award specially made by artist Kim David Bots.
“1646 started as an artist initiative, by and for artists, and grew into one of the most important art spaces in The Hague. For years, it’s been a place where artists can find the space and the means to produce and present new work, to boost their artistic practice. Besides that, 1646 offers the space for dialogue and engagement. The organisation is a colourful and diverse one; the content is always the center point. The jury of the Piket Art Prizes wants to honor the organisation of 1646 with this Jury award because of their long and very consistent positive presence that has been immensely valuable throughout the years. Also during the pandemic, 1646 played an important supporting part. 1646’s dedication, stance and program, without a doubt, has been attributing to The Hague’s art climate for a long time.”
A big thank you from 1646 to the jury, consisting of Jan Zoet (director Amare), Lea van der Vinde (Museum Huygens’ Hofwijck en Huygens’ Swaensteyn), artist Joncquil de Vries, Amos Ben-Tal (dance collective OFFprojects), Isabelle Chaffaud (Meyer-Chaffaud), John de Weerd (programmer Zaal 3 and De Parade) and actress and HKU-teacher Ellen Goemans, and to all the people that have contributed to 1646 throughout its history!
