1646 is excited to announce an international collaboration with Drugo More (The Other Sea) in Rijeka, Croatia. Together with Drugo More, 1646 will present a screening of works by Carmen Roca Igual and Adam Centko at the beautiful Filodrammatica, accompanied by a talk by artist and professor Nadija Mustapić.
All my friends are phones and tablets presents two exciting video works by recent graduates from the Interactive Media Design department, at The Hague’s Royal Academy of Art, Carmen Roca Igual and Adam Centko, followed by a talk. The works reflect on technology, loneliness and the role of digital environments in everyday life. A new reality emerges from our relationship to the digital world and the way we use representations of ourselves in it.
Novel by Roca Igual is a dramatic musing on the external and internal masks we choose to put on, an introspective journey, in a quarantine, accompanied by phones and tablets. Characters question their own self-image out loud as they talk to and even gossip with selfies and inanimate objects.
Silicon Sights by Centko offers a stroll through digital and natural landscapes whilst trying to interpret how they intertwine. A fragile dependency comes to light, showing how the digital space can’t thrive without the natural resources of the physical one.
About Drugo More (The Other Sea)
Working as a non-profit organisation in the field of culture since 1999, Drugo More identifies and explores topics of social relevance and general interest to the community we all live in. By working locally, regionally, internationally and interdisciplinary, it connects an artistic programme with discourses in science and cultural theory, because of a belief that art is an important cognitive tool.
The creation and facilitation of exchange between local and international artists, students and the audience is at the core of our manifold activities that include the production of visual and performing arts, research in the field of culture and the organisation of participatory and educational events such as conferences and seminars.
