1646’s submission to Plugin, the New Media section of Contemporary Istanbul 2013, was Dan Walwin’s video piece Shallows.
This video by Walwin, resident artist at the Rijksakademie in 2012-13 and past resident at 1646, consists of a camera moving above a flat landscape, made up of a variety of materials both assembled and constructed.
The camera moves noiselessly, illuminating its route in front of itself, and agitates the materials by the presence of a silent wind. The scene includes a number of people who are apparently immobilised and experiencing an imbalance in the air supply.
