Sometimes you are brave, sometimes curious, sometimes caring, wild, shy, or very exuberant. We often show some sides, while others remain hidden.
In Natasha Tontey’s exhibition Macho Mystic Meltdown: Subtracted Anthology, we encounter figures that are constantly changing. Beings that are not just one thing, but consist of different sides, qualities, and stories. People, too, are never just one person.
During this workshop for children (6-12), as part of Festival de Betovering, you will create your own figure that embodies all those different sides. Using cardboard, magazines, and all sorts of surprising materials, you will build, cut, and paste a character that can transform and change. Perhaps it has multiple faces, special powers, or qualities that are not immediately visible?
Come build, experiment, and transform! Give shape to a being in which everything that makes you special comes together.

Every year during the Autumn Break, The Hague hosts the international children’s arts festival De Betovering (The Enchantment). From 17 to 25 October 2026, children aged 0 to 12 years can enjoy nine days filled with creativity, imagination, and cultural discovery. Across approximately 65 locations throughout the city, the festival presents more than 400 performances and workshops, ranging from theatre, dance, music, and film to visual arts and hands-on creative activities. Children can experience the most enchanting Dutch and international performances, carefully selected for young audiences. In addition, professional artists guide a wide variety of workshops where children can explore dance, music, filmmaking, painting, theatre, and much more. In several of these workshops, participants will also visit museums and galleries, such as the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, to discover and engage with real artworks.
De Betovering is the result of a unique collaboration between multiple cultural institutions in The Hague, creating a city-wide celebration of art and imagination for young audiences.Share
