During November – December 2013, Jiménez Landa made a series of new works during his residency period, varying from interventions and actions in public space, installations, drawings and photographs. The interventions and actions in the public space were aimed at bringing the sidewalk back to life as a meeting place for people.
The works that Jiménez Landa developed during his residency period were shown in two one-day solo exhibitions, on 23 and 29 November 2013 during Hoogtij #35.
Operating like a wayward scientist and an exuberant storyteller, the artist invites us to see that the absurd and the profound, the tender and the iconoclastic are two sides of the same coin.
Including works in video, drawing, photography and sculpture, as well as actions and public interventions, the practice of Fermín Jiménez Landa has embraced works as diverse as a research on the Greek folk music Rebetiko, powering a rotary kebab grill with energy from lemons, staging a snowball fight in mid summer and filling cracks in a pavement with whipped cream.
