The Name Blessing Game

During this evening Bernice Nauta gave a brief talk on ‘the copy’, exploring the theme in the practice of other artists.

Besides this, Nauta invited the Self Luminous Society, a performance collective that she is a part of. They performed the Name Blessing Game, wherein they invited people to change identities, in other words to assume an alter ego.

We also presented Nauta’s contribution to the Friends of 1646 programme. For the fourth run of its Friends Program, 1646 collaborated with Bernice Nauta. Support 1646 as a friend or Benefactor and take home one of these great works!

Self Luminous Society (SLS) is a group of linguistic-metaphysic-mystical-lunatics. In short, we like to play with words and believe that through word play we can reach the divine with a transcendental state of mind and a beautiful big behind.

SLS was founded in 2016 and is nomadic, traveling around the world developing products and systems, partnering with various groups and institutions. They are currently 4 members: Slim Denken (The Cosmic Cowboy), Hayne E. Day (The Conscious Caballero), Benny Snouta (The Concept Conspirator), and José (The Contagious Condoctor).

About Bernice Nauta: Bernice Nauta (b. 1991, Netherlands) studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. She attended the residency programmes at Ampelhaus, Oranienbaum (DE), Orbital Residency, Cantabria (ES) and the European Ceramic Work Centre, Oisterwijk (NL). Solo exhibitions include presentations at Poppositions 2018, Brussels; El faro de Cabo Mayor, Santander; Ondertussen, Stroom Den Haag; Cultuur Centrum Strombeek, Brussels; and group exhibitions at De Apotheek, Amsterdam; José de la Fuente Gallery, Santander; Assembly Point, London; Squash Editions, Mexico City; 1646, The Hague. Nauta is part of the artist-run gallery Billytown, The Hague, where her work was shown in numerous exhibitions. We have had the pleasure of working with Nauta before in the post-graduate group exhibition Fast is Good for Us (2013).
