Deep listening sonic lecture performance

A Black man wearing black clothing, a red beanie, and colorful sneakers squats down, smiling brightly as he holds a microphone and twists a knob on a DJ panel on the floor. The microphone and knob are connected to a larger panel with more knobs. The background is a bright studio green.

As part of Rewire Festival Mo Laudi —artist, composer, and pioneer of Afro-Electronic music— presented a deep listening sonic lecture performance at 1646. Blending sound and space, his immersive session reflects his Globalisto philosophy, exploring themes of healing, communal connection and radical hospitality.

RE-WIRE FESTIVAL

Ntshepe Tsekere Bopape(Mo Laudi) is a multi-disciplinary artist, composer, DJ, and research fellow at Stellenbosch University. A pioneering figure in Afro-Electronic music, he is known for his Globalisto philosophy, blending sonic experimentation with socio-political critique. His work spans painting, collage, sculpture, installations, video, and performance, often exploring themes of healing, communal connection, deep listening, and radical hospitality. His ongoing research and collaborations continue to challenge invisibility and push the boundaries of Afro-futurist thinking.

This approach is reflected in his exhibitions at institutions such as the Centre Pompidou, Dakar Biennale, and Shimmer in Rotterdam. He has collaborated with the Grand Palais, Fondation Cartier, and Kunstinstituut Melly, while his curatorial projects include ‘Globalisto. A Philosophy in Flux’ at Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Saint-Étienne. Upcoming projects include ‘Afrosonica. Sonic Landscapes’ at MEG Geneva and a publication with Louvre Abu Dhabi.

At Rewire, Mo Laudi brought his dynamic practice, merging sound and space into an immersive experience.
