1646 is currently screening Isadora Neves Marques’ video YWY, Visions (13 minutes, 2023). YWY, Visions (2023) is the last project in the series of works and texts that began in 2017, including films, installations, and a book published by Sternberg Press in 2022. The premiere of YWY, Visions 2023 took place on 23 November 2023 at 1646. You can see YWY, Visions until the 3rd of December in Boekhorststraat 127, in the backspace.
In previous films, Neves Marques introduced the character YWY, portrayed by indigenous actress and performer Zahy Tentehar Guajajara and long-time collaborator of Neves Marques. YWY became a way to complicate expected roles and imaginaries about indigeneity, gender, technology, environmentalism and science fiction.
The premiere of the last video work of the series YWY, Visions is connected to Neves Marques’ exhibition that was shown in 1646 at the end of 2020, which was co-curated by Rosa Lleó and was a collaboration with CA2M in Madrid.
The new work, YWY, Visions 2023, was supported by: Gemeente Den Haag, 1646 and produced within the programme of ”la Caixa” Foundation, Support for Creation’18 Production.
