The Old Examples

Every day Ton Schuttelaar goes in search of images with a potential for meaning. With great dedication and love for the image, he takes shots of objects and situations in the street that, in his eyes, form the warm track of the passing of time. Those crude pictures are then given a title of great significance, extracted from their original background and context and transposed and reworked into space.

The gap between the image and the often politically, religiously or culturally loaded is at times big or very small indeed. It is from such gap that suggestion arises and gives way to new meaning. A meaning that, for unclear that it might be, is the more so present in the game offered to the viewer by the image and its title.
