[ … ] an ongoing search for the ideal combination between the beauty of discovery and the happiness of recognition [ … ] (Frank Koolen)
The work of Frank Koolen seems to celebrate the encounter. The moment of looking, in which something strikes your fascination and you perceive an order between things that is not imposed but casual.
A moment in which the everyday and the magical seem to collide, creating an unexpected logic. Using the everyday as his source of inspiration Koolen uses directness, associations, improvisation, as tools to redefine his surroundings, its meaning, its beauty and our relation to the ordinary.
Today it is no longer possible to know everything. The link between the self and the world of objects no longer exists. We must create our own worlds to fulfill our need for knowledge, in order to understand, to satisfy our need for order. (Samuel Beckett)
