In the period October – November we will host the Finnish artist collective Anna Breu in our residency. In 2014 we invited the collective to do a performance, and now, four years later, they have been selected via the residency’s open call to develop a longer project in The Hague.
Their residency at 1646 will be a first iteration of an ongoing project examining late stage capitalism and the search for a new emancipatory vision. The work reinterprets Giovanni Boccaccio’s Decamerone, where a group of young people is fleeing the plague to a countryside mansion, entertaining each other by telling stories. For the residency period, the focus will be to develop a work-in-progress video piece while working with local actors.
Anna Breu is an artist collective formed in 2013, based in Turku, Finland. The group shares a playful interest towards social norms and behavior. Anna Breu is a cross-disciplinary group, using moving image, sound and performance as its primary mediums. Anna Breu members are Antti Jussila, Jari Kallio, Jari Suominen, Sakari Tervo, Annukka Vähäsöyrinki.
On the 27th of October at 7 pm, 1646 will host the event “Coyote Explained”; an artist talk and discussion about the practice of Anna Breu.
